On behalf of our school community, I welcome you to the website of St Clare’s Primary School, Yarrabilba. The school has been named in the honour of St Clare, who worked closely with St Francis of Assisi. St Clare’s opened its doors to our very first students in January 2017.
During 2017 and beyond I am looking forward to working with the community to develop a contemporary learning environment which is focused on the students. I am particularly interested in providing opportunities for students to become successful, creative and confident learners.
My vision is that St Clare’s will be a collaborative, nurturing and professional learning community which will be inclusive of all. I believe that every student should be given the opportunity to achieve excellent progress every year.
The St Clare's School Community is vibrant and positive, with an active and supportive parent body. Positive partnerships are integral to our success.
Throughout 2016/2017 I have personally recruited professional, passionate and inspiring teachers, and support staff, who share my vision for St Clare's.
In preparation to become the foundation principal of St Clare's, I attended study tours visiting a range of outstanding and exemplary government and non-government schools through-out South-East Queensland, Sydney, New Zealand, and California, USA. I spent two weeks in Assisi, Italy, on a spiritual retreat to learn about St Clare and St Francis, and what these two deeply committed Catholics brought to their contemporaries; and how their example may lead our work at St Clare's.
With over 20 years in education, and what I have learned travelling and studying, I am very excited to be able to implement strategies and practices at St Clare's that have a strong research and evidence base.
Previous to my position at St Clare's I was principal at St Joachim's, Holland Park, and have held assistant principal roles and education consultancy roles within Brisbane Catholic Education. St Clare's Primary School is the fifth Catholic school in which I have worked, and I have taught all year levels from Prep - Year 7. I have also held an executive officer role at the Queensland Catholic Education Commission (QCEC) where I worked with education leaders across Queensland.
I am very happily married with two boys attending a Catholic secondary school in Brisbane.
I encourage you to take some time to explore our site, and I invite you to contact me if you have any further enquiries.
Peace and Blessings,
Mr Chris Thomas - Foundation School Principal
